Pregnancy and delivery celebrations have long been a feature of human culture. Baby showers have a long history and were not always the consumer-driven occasions that they are now. Fruits and other consumables were presented to the mother as presents in ancient India to aid the baby’s growth. These rituals are held to bless the mother and the infant, in the hopes that they will have a healthy and joyful path ahead of them.
Seemantham is a South Indian custom performed during the 6th, 7th, or 8th month of a woman’s pregnancy in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu.
