Vidya means ‘knowledge,’ and arambham means to start,’ as the name implies. This implies it’s a custom that marks a toddler’s formal introduction to writing and syllabary. It’s for toddlers, and they use rice and sand to form their first letters. The event is devoted to Goddess Saraswati, who is known as the Goddess of Wisdom and is traditionally held on the last day of Navratri or Vijayadashmi.
