Annaprashan is a Sanskrit term, which literally means “grain initiation”. It’s commonly known as your baby’s first feeding or first rice-eating ceremony. The Annaprashan ritual marks the beginning of the baby’s growth. Annaprashan is a Vedic practice that is being practiced in South Asia and Iran today. Priests are there to perform the Annaprashan mantra at the designated auspicious moment.
Other feeding foods are added to the newborn baby’s diet after this process. The newborn is clothed in traditional clothing for the first time. The Annaprashan ritual begins with a Puja and a wish for the baby’s well-being, prosperity, and happiness. Following the Puja ritual, the prasad is symbolically fed as the first piece of solid food.
